This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.
I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.
I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.
Oh my god. Oh. My. God. I love this. As grotesque as it is, I fully understand where you are coming from with this piece, with the whole thing of what an extreme search for beauty can do to a person.
This really hits close to home. Your idea, techniques, composition... I'm speechless.
Scary! hehe, but you did an awesome job with it. The meaning comes through in a striking way. Personally I don't even find skinny supermodels attractive, I dont know whats up with these fashion ppl. Maybe its that the models are more like walking coathangers for the cloths hehe.
I havent had a chance to look at your other works, but after seeing this your gallery is mine biatch! er I mean Great work
seriously though this really appeals to me mostly because i understand the point your making, but i also like how you've exaggerated the planes of the bones and diminished the skin past that of even an annorexic. it's very harsh and drives your point home like a nail um.. driving um, home?
We want to know what love means to you!
Get your creative juices flowing and design a movie poster for "Paper Heart" that focuses on the theme "What Does Love Mean to Me?".

Well, my idea was to convey that some women go to such lengths to appear what they believe to be beautiful, you know?
We certainly wouldn't find the skinny afro-wench attractive. lol
